The Shady Oak is located in Fernilee, a hamlet located a short distance from Whaley Bridge and Chapel en le Frith in the High Peak district of Derbyshire. Located on Long Hill Road the pub has fabulous views of the rolling hills and picturesque views of the Goyt Valley. The nearby River Goyt attracts tourists of which many are walkers however it has not become dominated by seasonal tourism like some other nearby towns and villages. Whaley Bridge continues to expand with new and re-developed housing but retains the character of a small town and has numerous shops and facilities as does Chapel en le Frith. The area has good transport routes – Whaley Bridge train station offers frequent services to Manchester Piccadilly, the main A6 Derby/Manchester Road is twenty minutes away and leads to the main motorway routes into Manchester.

Pub Layout

On entrance you are greeted by a long single bar servery with access to all trading arears. To the left of the entrance is a snug area with an open fire creating a warm welcome. To the right of the entrance is the main trading area which has a mixture of loose and fixed seating to facilitate both dining and social drinking. There is also a small, raised area (currently with a pool table) which can be used as a stage for live entertainment. The kitchen is located through the bar, with toilets located near the snug area. Externally there is a large car park with spaces for over twenty vehicles and a beer garden overlooking the beautiful, charming surroundings. There are also letting rooms to add another income stream to the business.

The pub offers itself as a country inn whilst having a community feel. It is well supported by the locals throughout the year and tourists through the seasons. The current offer is home-cooked food with established cask ales and a good range of keg beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks.
