TAKE A LOOK INSIDE NEW PRESTON PUB FOLLOWING £283,000 MAKEOVER

The Lancaster Gate in Preston, formerly the Black A Moor, reopened last Wednesday 4th December following a major investment of £283,000. The pub is part of Proper Pubs – the award-winning community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns – which has more than 200 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales.

Beth and Damian Hodgson, Operators of The Lancaster Gate, said: The Lancaster Gate has undergone a transformational internal and external refurbishment to modernise the pub and create a warm, inviting atmosphere for customers to enjoy. Inside, it now features brand new furniture and fixtures whilst outside, the pub has been refreshed to reflect the new interior and to greet visitors upon arrival.

It looks absolutely fantastic and we are beyond excited to share its amazing new look, along with everything it now has to offer, with the community!”

To celebrate the reopening, the pub hosted a jam-packed weekend full of live entertainment starting with a set from local DJ, Helen, on Thursday 5th December followed by a live performance from local duo, The Stand Inns, on Friday 6th December and from local band, Stone Cutter, on Saturday 7th December.

Going forward, Beth and Damian look forward to hosting plenty of events in aid of important local causes as well as introducing a regular schedule of entertainment including quizzes, games nights, bingo evenings and darts tournaments to further bring people together.

Beth and Damian added: “We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest thanks to everyone at Proper Pubs for their invaluable support in bringing this vision to life. We’d also like to give a special mention to our incredible team and the local community for all their continued encouragement throughout this journey. We’re absolutely delighted to come to the helm of The Lancaster Gate and look forward to cementing it at the heart of Preston.”

The Lancaster Gate also offers a wide range of drinks promotions including Wine Wednesday, where customers can get £2 off a bottle, Fizz Friday, offering customers a bottle of fizz for £10, along with cocktails, bottle and shot deals throughout the week. In addition, from Monday-Thursday customers can purchase a pint of Fosters, John Smith’s and Magners Original for £2.50 until 3pm.

Matthew Gurney, Operations Director for Proper Pubs, said: “The Lancaster Gate looks absolutely amazing, and I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication the entire team has put in to ensure the pub is ready to welcome back its customers.

I want to wish Damian, Beth, and the whole team the very best of luck as they work to establish The Lancaster Gate as the go-to community social hub. Here’s to continued success and growth!”

Proper Pubs is always looking for ways to support its communities through an annual schedule of events and fundraising initiatives. In March, it was crowned Community Pub Operator at the Publican Awards, and more recently raised nearly £100,000 in just three months for various local charities across the UK. In September 2024, the Group successfully donated enough food to local foodbanks across the UK to feed 1,300 people for a week and has also been recognised for its UK-wide defibrillator installation campaign which has already saved 11 lives.

This year, operators across Proper Pubs’ estate have collected as many advent calendars as possible to donate to local charities and communities in need and are asking their customers to write Christmas Cards to those experiencing loneliness this Christmas.
