The Queens Arms on Admiral Street in Liverpool reopened on Friday 14th February following a phenomenal investment of almost £265,000. The pub is part of Proper Pubs, the award-winning community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns, which operates more than 200 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales.
Leah Evans, Operator of The Queens Arms, said: “I am absolutely over the moon to have taken over The Queens Arms and to be able to bring it back to the heart of the community. It’s such a special pub that means so much to me and my family, as well as all the local residents, so I feel extremely grateful to have this opportunity.”
As part of the refurbishment, The Queens Arms has been completely transformed externally, including brand new lighting, signage and windows, to elevate the exterior of the pub. It also boasts a spacious beer garden – seating up to approximately 50 people – with brand new furniture, a heated wooden pergola and an outdoor television screen to ensure it’s the perfect place to socialise all year round.
Inside, The Queens Arms is complete with traditional pub-style carpet, wooden furniture, and five televisions hosting Sky and TNT sports and has received some subtle new touches to the décor to breathe a fresh lease of life into the interior. In addition, the pub features a virtual dartboard which allows customers to play remotely against anyone across the country .
To celebrate the reopening on Friday 14th February, the pub hosted a complimentary prosecco reception and buffet for local residents to enjoy.
Going forward, The Queens Arms will host a wide range of drinks promotions, including Wine Wednesday, where customers can get £2 off a bottle, Fizz Friday, offering customers a bottle of fizz for £10, along with cocktails, bottle and shot deals throughout the week.
Leah added: “I’d like to thank everyone, including my family, friends, pub team and all at Proper Pubs for their incredible support in helping me transform The Queens Arms into a vibrant community hub that local residents will continue to enjoy for years to come.”
On top of the fantastic drinks selection, the pub will continue to run its busy schedule of entertainment including regular poker and bingo nights as well as darts and cribbage teams for those looking for a bit of friendly competition. Going forward, Leah is looking to expand the pub’s busy event calendar and is open to hearing suggestions from residents to ensure she is catering to the needs of her customers.
As a passionate, community-orientated individual, Leah is keen to support all aspects of local life by fundraising for a range of causes close to the community’s heart. To begin with, she’ll be collecting food to donate to the local foodbank and raising money to have a lifesaving defibrillator installed.
Matthew Gurney, Operations Director for Proper Pubs, said: “The pub is looking fantastic and it goes without saying that it’s a pleasure having Leah and her wider family on board at The Queens Arms. She brings such unique insight and an invaluable understanding of the community to the pub so I look forward to seeing all that she has in store for the site.
On behalf of myself and the whole team at Proper Pubs, I’d like to thank both the operator, and everyone who has had a hand in getting The Queens Arms to where it is now, for all their hard work and I wish Leah the very best for the future.”
Proper Pubs is always looking for ways to support its communities through an annual schedule of events and fundraising initiatives. In March 2024, it was crowned Community Pub Operator at the Publican Awards, and more recently collected 16,000 advent calendars to donate to communities in need and raised nearly £100,000 in just three months for various local charities across the UK. In September 2024, the Group successfully donated enough food to local foodbanks across the UK to feed 1,300 people for a week and has also been recognised for its UK-wide defibrillator installation campaign which has already saved 11 lives.
