Best of British

by admin 8/31/2010 1:33:00 PM

With the ninth annual British Food Fortnight getting underway from 18 September, we’re encouraging our landlords whose pubs serve food to think about getting involved.

For pubs that don’t have a local food offer, it’s a great time to start; for those that already do, the two week celebration of British cuisine is a good time to shout about it.

Think about running promotional offers or featuring special dishes made with local produce to boost sales, increase footfall and attract new customers.

Visit the Love British food website for more information and tips on making the most of British Food Fortnight.

Wake up and smell the coffee

by admin 7/6/2010 9:30:00 AM

The Morning Advertiser has recently highlighted the fact that serving coffee could boost pub takings during quieter periods of the day.

They’ve also come up with some top tips for serving the perfect caffeine fix, from running special food offers alongside your coffee offerings to veering far away from the ‘carafe on a hotplate’ option.

We’d encourage landlords to think about expanding their drinks offerings if they haven’t already done so – after all, we do seem to be turning into a nation of coffee lovers.

For the full article and more tips of serving the perfect cup of coffee, visit the Morning Advertiser website.

Football food

by admin 5/13/2010 4:08:00 PM

We’ve already reported on what a boost the World Cup will be for pub profits, and provided landlords with some advice on preparing their pub for the summer of sport.

And now, with the kick off now tantalisingly close, we want to share some tips on how best to cater for hungry footie fans.

Sharing platters of finger food are a great way to satisfy their appetite without forcing them to take their eyes off the game for too long. Keep things interesting by offering a few different selections – Tex Mex, Chinese, or Hot and Spicy are good starting points for themes - and ensure the platters look appealing by choosing a mixture of food in different colours and shapes.

Make sure that all of the food is easy to prepare and can be cooked as quick as possible to make the most of half time munchies and don’t forget about desserts – pudding platters can work really well too.

For further advice, Admiral Taverns landlords can speak to the Mypubfood team.

Working relations

by admin 5/7/2010 2:21:00 PM

All landlords know the value of the Friday evening drinks market, when workers stream into local pubs to mark the beginning of the weekend. But a recent survey has revealed stingy bosses might be putting a dent in profits.

SAB Miller's European Beer Drinkers Survey has revealed that 97% of British bosses enjoy sharing a trip to the pub with their workmates but only one in ten managers insist on paying for all the drinks.

Landlords should get on the good side of bosses by offering up plenty of food and drink special offers – Admiral Taverns’ monthly magazine AGENDA has full details of the promotions available to our landlords, or you can speak to our Mypubfood team for some great bar food ideas.

Calorie counting

by admin 5/4/2010 1:37:00 PM

A recent survey has revealed that customers want to know more about their pub food.

In a survey of 400 people by The Mystery Dining Company (TMDC) 58 per cent said they’d like to see nutritional details, such as calorie counts, on menus. Three quarters also said that including nutritional information would influence their choice of meal.

We’re advising Admiral Taverns’ landlords that displaying nutritional information of menus can help customers to make an informed choice and also clearly showcase the diverse range of food on offer.

If you’d like to find out more, our Mypubfood team is always available to help landlords make menu decisions.

Flavourful food

by admin 4/13/2010 3:06:00 PM

We’re encouraging landlords who offer food that packs more of a punch, as recent research by Schwartz has revealed that consumers are looking for more flavour in their food.

The 2010 Schwartz Flavour Forecast revealed that customers are moving away from meat based dishes and opting for healthier, cheaper and more unusually flavoured food.

The forecast predicts that herbes de Provence and chorizo; mint and courgette; dill and beetroot; bay leaves and preserved lemons; chilli and edamame; and roasted cumin and chickpea are the top flavour combos for the year ahead.

The White Horse celebrates award win

by admin 4/1/2010 1:27:00 PM

The latest recipients of an Admiral Taverns Achievement Award are a group of Churton landlords with an innovative approach to running their pub.

Stewart Ellams and Jamie and Jackie Williams of The White Horse have turned a disused building at the back of the pub into a rentable unit that is currently being used by a local cake maker.

As Jamie previous worked as a head chef in a number of restaurants, the team build many of the pub’s events around food offerings, hosting parties and barbeques at the pub in the summer and catering for events in the local village hall.

The White Horse is extremely popular with its customers and Stewart, Jamie and Jackie have come up with a variety of great ways to make some extra income and also support the local community.

If you’d like to find out more about running a pub, contact our recruitment team.

Here comes the sun...

by admin 3/26/2010 12:07:00 PM

It might be hard to believe given that most of the country has been deluged with rain for the past week, but Positive Weather Solutions (PWS) claim we’re set for a barbecue summer.

PWS say that the average temperatures for June, July and August will be higher than 1976, the UK’s hottest summer on record.

And, with Wimbledon and the World Cup coming up, customers will be looking to enjoy the sunshine and sports coverage in their local.

We’re encouraging our landlords to start thinking about how they’ll make the most of this sunny weather – outdoor community events are a great way to boost sales and grow your customer base.

Take a look at the relevant sections of our website to find out more about our Promotions and how Mypubfood can help you plan and market your summer events.

Get a slice of the pie

by admin 2/12/2010 11:01:00 AM

Following on from the recent blog post about Admiral’s successful food events (see below), we thought we’d offer a little extra food advice to our landlords.

British Pie Week is coming up, and getting involved with the event could really drive sales at your pub.

Starting on 1 March, this event offers a great opportunity for pubs to plan ‘pie and pint’ deals, theme nights or a special pie-themed menu.

If you’d like to find out more about how Admiral are helping their landlords make the most of their food offering, visit the My Pub Food website or call the Admiral Taverns food team on 0844 800 6671.

Admiral food events a hit with landlords

by admin 11/30/2009 11:35:00 AM

Admiral Taverns landlords have been learning about the benefits of offering food to increase their sales and footfall at special events held in partnership with Booker wholesale, the UK’s leading food wholesaler.

The events, held at Booker branches in the South West, gave landlords the chance to meet with the expert Admiral Food Team who provided useful help and advice about how to start food from simple bar snacks through to five course menus.

Due to the success of the events, Admiral will be holding 14 more events across the rest of the UK in the New Year.  Any landlord who would like to attend one of the events or find out more information, can contact the Admiral Taverns food team on 0844 800 6671.

You’ll fine more useful tools to help you make the most of your food offering at MyPubFood.co.uk
